Description

A sweet and tangy cranberry apple chutney that pairs perfectly with meats and cheeses for the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries (about 8 oz)
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Peeled, core, and chop the apples. Rinse the cranberries and remove any stems or damaged berries.
  2. In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the onion and ginger. Cook for about 3–4 minutes until they soften.
  3. Stir in the cranberries, chopped apples, brown sugar, vinegar, orange juice, cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cook uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and let the chutney sit for 15–20 minutes to thicken as it cools.
  6. Transfer the chutney to clean jars or containers and refrigerate once cooled. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.

Notes

For a smoother chutney, blend slightly after cooking. Adjust sweetness by modifying the amount of brown sugar as per your preference.
