Description
A sweet and tangy cranberry apple chutney that pairs perfectly with meats and cheeses for the holiday season.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries (about 8 oz)
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup orange juice
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Peeled, core, and chop the apples. Rinse the cranberries and remove any stems or damaged berries.
- In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the onion and ginger. Cook for about 3–4 minutes until they soften.
- Stir in the cranberries, chopped apples, brown sugar, vinegar, orange juice, cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cook uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and let the chutney sit for 15–20 minutes to thicken as it cools.
- Transfer the chutney to clean jars or containers and refrigerate once cooled. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
Notes
For a smoother chutney, blend slightly after cooking. Adjust sweetness by modifying the amount of brown sugar as per your preference.
