Description

A classic dessert that combines fluffy cake, rich custard, and smooth chocolate ganache.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 1 cup heavy cream


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cakes are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the custard. In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks until thickened. Stir in the vanilla extract and let it cool.
  7. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it is simmering. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  8. Once the cakes are cool, assemble your Boston Cream Pie by layering the custard between the cake layers and topping with warm ganache.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened for easier mixing. Do not overmix the batter, as this can make the cake tough.
