Description
A delightful American dessert featuring layers of light cake, creamy custard, and rich chocolate ganache.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cakes are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the custard, whisk together the whole milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
- To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it simmers. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
- To assemble, layer the custard between the cooled cake layers and pour the warm ganache on top.
Notes
Cool the cake completely before assembling to prevent the custard from melting. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache for better flavor.
