Description

A delightful American dessert featuring layers of light cake, creamy custard, and rich chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cakes are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the custard, whisk together the whole milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
  7. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it simmers. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  8. To assemble, layer the custard between the cooled cake layers and pour the warm ganache on top.

Notes

Cool the cake completely before assembling to prevent the custard from melting. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache for better flavor.
