Description

A rich chocolate cake layered with a creamy cheesecake center, perfect for special occasions or weeknight indulgence.


Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 16 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 8 oz bittersweet chocolate, melted
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan and wrap the base in heavy-duty foil.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla, and mix well. Gradually stir in boiling water.
  4. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes until firm.
  5. While cake layers bake, mix cream cheese, sugar, eggs, melted chocolate, sour cream, and flour until smooth.
  6. Spread cheesecake filling on top of the baked chocolate layer, then pour remaining cake batter over the filling.
  7. Place the springform pan in a larger roasting pan and fill with hot water halfway up the sides.
  8. Bake for 40–55 minutes, or until the center jiggles slightly when shaken. Cool in the oven with the door ajar for 15 minutes.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

For best texture, chill the cake overnight before slicing. Use fresh fruit or ganache for garnishing.
