Description
A rich chocolate cake layered with a creamy cheesecake center, perfect for special occasions or weeknight indulgence.
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 16 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 8 oz bittersweet chocolate, melted
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan and wrap the base in heavy-duty foil.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla, and mix well. Gradually stir in boiling water.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes until firm.
- While cake layers bake, mix cream cheese, sugar, eggs, melted chocolate, sour cream, and flour until smooth.
- Spread cheesecake filling on top of the baked chocolate layer, then pour remaining cake batter over the filling.
- Place the springform pan in a larger roasting pan and fill with hot water halfway up the sides.
- Bake for 40–55 minutes, or until the center jiggles slightly when shaken. Cool in the oven with the door ajar for 15 minutes.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
Notes
For best texture, chill the cake overnight before slicing. Use fresh fruit or ganache for garnishing.
