  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Green gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half, tint one half red and the other green with food coloring.
  7. Roll each colored dough between parchment paper to about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Layer the two colors of dough together and roll into a log.
  9. Chill the log in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  10. Once chilled, slice into 1/4 inch rounds and place on prepared baking sheets.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden around the edges.
  12. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Ensure to chill the dough for the best swirl definition. Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors.
