A warm and cheesy casserole combining tender chicken, flavorful orzo pasta, and rich flavors inspired by classic French onion soup.
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken, cooked and shredded
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onions until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook orzo in salted water until slightly undercooked, about 6-7 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked chicken, sautéed onions, chicken broth, thyme, salt, pepper, and orzo.
- Transfer the mixture to a deep casserole dish and top with shredded cheese.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve with a green salad or crusty French bread. You can customize this recipe by adding vegetables or using different proteins.
