Crispy and golden onion petals made in an air fryer, perfect for parties and snacks without the mess of deep frying.
Ingredients
- 1 Large Sweet Onion (like Vidalia), peeled and sliced carefully
- 1/2 cup Milk (or dairy-free alternative)
- 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)
- 1/2 cup Flour (for breading)
- 1 tablespoon Hot Sauce (adjust to taste)
- Salt & Pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Slice the onion into 8-12 cuts from the top, keeping the root intact.
- Soak the onion in cold water for a few minutes to help the layers separate.
- In one bowl, mix milk and hot sauce. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, flour, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Dunk each petal in the wet mixture, then the dry, pressing gently to adhere.
- Place the petals in the air fryer basket, spritz lightly with oil.
- Set air fryer to 375°F and cook for about 10 minutes, checking for doneness.
- Let cool for 1-2 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and ensure you have the right onion thickness.
