Description

Warm and comforting homemade Mexican hot chocolate with rich chocolate flavor and a hint of spice.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Milk (Any type of milk can be used, such as whole, almond, or oat milk.)
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa Powder (Unsweetened cocoa powder for rich chocolate flavor.)
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar (Adjust to taste; alternatives like honey or agave syrup can be used.)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (Adds warmth and characteristic Mexican flavor.)
  • 1 pinch Salt (Enhances the chocolate flavor.)
  • 1 tablespoon Chocolate Chips (Optional, for extra chocolatey experience.)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, pour in the milk and stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  2. Add the cocoa powder and whisk vigorously to combine as the milk heats.
  3. Sprinkle in the sugar and whisk until fully dissolved.
  4. Add the ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt, stirring well to infuse the flavors.
  5. Increase the heat slightly and stir until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  6. If using, add the chocolate chips and stir until melted.
  7. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and serve immediately, optionally topping with whipped cream or chocolate shavings.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Experiment with flavored milk alternatives like vanilla or chocolate almond milk.
