Description

Delicious and comforting oven-baked candied yams with rich brown sugar and warm spices, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium Yams, peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Water


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the yams into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced yams with brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until the yams are evenly coated.
  4. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or oil.
  5. Pour the coated yams into the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
  6. Add water to the dish.
  7. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and stir the yams gently.
  10. Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the yams are tender and caramelized.
  11. Let the yams cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added sweetness, you can drizzle maple syrup over the yams. Mini marshmallows can also be added during the last 5 minutes for a gooey topping.
