Description

A stunning Indian fusion dessert combining soft Gulab Jamun in crispy, golden Kunafa nests for a delightful textural contrast.

Ingredients

  • For Gulab Jamun:
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Oil for frying
  • For Syrup:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • For Kunafa Nests:
  • 200g Kunafa pastry
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together with cardamom powder and rose water until it reaches a slightly sticky consistency. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix milk powder, flour, baking soda, and then gradually add milk to form a smooth dough. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan. Roll the dough into small balls and fry until golden brown. Soak them in the prepared sugar syrup for at least 2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Shred the Kunafa pastry and mix it with melted butter. Shape it into nests on a baking tray.
  5. Bake the nests in the preheated oven until golden and crispy.
  6. Once cooled, place the syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun into the crispy Kunafa nests before serving.
  7. Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, allow the Gulab Jamun to soak in syrup overnight. Use unsalted butter for the Kunafa for a richer flavor.
