A stunning Indian fusion dessert combining soft Gulab Jamun in crispy, golden Kunafa nests for a delightful textural contrast.
Ingredients
- For Gulab Jamun:
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup milk
- Oil for frying
- For Syrup:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp rose water
- For Kunafa Nests:
- 200g Kunafa pastry
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together with cardamom powder and rose water until it reaches a slightly sticky consistency. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix milk powder, flour, baking soda, and then gradually add milk to form a smooth dough. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a frying pan. Roll the dough into small balls and fry until golden brown. Soak them in the prepared sugar syrup for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Shred the Kunafa pastry and mix it with melted butter. Shape it into nests on a baking tray.
- Bake the nests in the preheated oven until golden and crispy.
- Once cooled, place the syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun into the crispy Kunafa nests before serving.
- Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds and serve warm.
Notes
For best results, allow the Gulab Jamun to soak in syrup overnight. Use unsalted butter for the Kunafa for a richer flavor.
