Description

A delicious and comforting dish combining caramelized onions with tender meatballs, perfect for family meals or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and form into small, one-inch diameter meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning frequently, until browned on all sides and cooked through, or bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes.
  3. In a large saucepan, heat olive oil and add sliced onions. Cook over medium heat until caramelized and tender, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add beef broth, soy sauce, thyme, and sugar to the caramelized onions. Simmer for 10 minutes to create a rich, savory onion sauce.
  5. Place the cooked meatballs into the onion sauce and simmer on low heat for an additional 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

To store leftovers, let cool completely, transfer to an airtight container, and refrigerate for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
