Description

A delicious fusion of French onion soup and juicy burgers topped with caramelized onions and gooey cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 ground beef patties (80/20 fat content)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 slices Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 4 sturdy buns (brioche or pretzel)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Beef broth, for serving


Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions by sautéing them in butter over low heat for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. While the onions cook, shape the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill or pan-sear the patties until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. Assemble the burgers by layering the cheese and caramelized onions on top of each patty.
  5. Serve in toasted buns with a drizzle of beef broth on the side for dipping.

Notes

For a spicier version, consider adding cayenne pepper to the beef or serving with sliced jalapeños.
