Description
A delicious fusion of French onion soup and juicy burgers topped with caramelized onions and gooey cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 ground beef patties (80/20 fat content)
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 slices Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 4 sturdy buns (brioche or pretzel)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Beef broth, for serving
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions by sautéing them in butter over low heat for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
- While the onions cook, shape the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
- Grill or pan-sear the patties until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Assemble the burgers by layering the cheese and caramelized onions on top of each patty.
- Serve in toasted buns with a drizzle of beef broth on the side for dipping.
Notes
For a spicier version, consider adding cayenne pepper to the beef or serving with sliced jalapeños.
