Description
A healthier twist on traditional gyros, these Greek Turkey Meatball Gyros are packed with Mediterranean flavors and are perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita breads
- For Tzatziki: 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, grated and excess moisture squeezed out
- 2 tbsp fresh mint, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the ground turkey, oregano, cumin, garlic, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Form the mixture into meatballs and place them on the baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- In a separate bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, mint, garlic, and lemon juice to make the tzatziki.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, let them rest for 5 minutes.
- Warm the pita breads and assemble the gyros by filling them with meatballs and tzatziki, then add your favorite toppings.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh herbs and allow the tzatziki to chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
