Description

Delicious homemade chocolate old-fashioned doughnuts with a rich flavor and nostalgic texture.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: milk, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until a thick, pliable dough forms.
  4. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut it into rings.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Drain on a cooling rack lined with paper towels.
  9. Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

For variation, you can use gluten-free flour or make them dairy-free with almond milk and coconut oil.
