Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Glaze of choice (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy.
- In another bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yolk and yeast mixture, mix to form dough.
- Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth, then let rise for 1 hour.
- Roll out dough and layer with cold butter, folding and rolling several times to create layers.
- Chill the dough for 1-2 hours, then cut into donut shapes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C) and fry cronuts until golden brown.
- Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar or glaze as desired.
Notes
Keep dough and butter cold to maintain flaky layers. Use high-quality butter for the best flavor.
