Description

A quick and easy recipe for classic Sloppy Joes, featuring a sweet and tangy sauce that the whole family will love.


Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup finely chopped onion
  • ½ cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ cup water
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Toasted hamburger buns for serving


Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
  2. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper; cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  4. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, and water.
  5. Simmer uncovered over medium-low heat for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, deglaze the pan with water after browning the meat. You can adapt this recipe for turkey or chicken as well.
