Description
A delightful treat combining creamy cheese and sweet cherries wrapped in flaky puff pastry, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 package Puff Pastry (thawed according to package instructions)
- 8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 large Egg Yolk
- 1/4 cup Ricotta Cheese (mascarpone can be substituted)
- 1 tsp Almond Extract (or vanilla extract)
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Lemon Zest
- 1 can Cherry Pie Filling (or fresh cherries)
- 1 large Egg (for washing)
- 1 cup Flour (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry. Cut it into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
- In a bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, ricotta cheese, almond extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth and creamy.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture on the center of each pastry piece.
- Top with cherry pie filling or fresh cherries.
- Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a pocket or shape as desired.
- Beat the large egg and brush it over the pastry to give it a lovely gloss.
- Place the prepared danishes on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature. They can be topped with powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream for extra sweetness.
