Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Filling of choice (e.g., pastry cream, jam)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, egg yolks, and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into small balls.
  7. Allow the dough balls to rise again until fluffy, about 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pan to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry the bomboloni in batches, turning to cook evenly until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes.
  10. Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels; fill with your chosen filling using a piping bag.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
