Description

Delightful baked onions filled with a creamy mixture and topped with nutty Asiago cheese, perfect as a side dish or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet onions (e.g., Vidalia or Walla Walla)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Asiago cheese
  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the tops off the onions and carefully hollow them out, leaving enough flesh to keep them sturdy.
  3. In a bowl, mix the scooped onion flesh with heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until combined.
  4. Spoon the creamy mixture back into the hollowed onions.
  5. Sprinkle grated Asiago cheese on top of each filled onion.
  6. Place the filled onions in a baking dish, snugly fitting them upright.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes until golden and tender.
  8. Optionally broil for a few minutes for a crispy top.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives before serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy finish, consider broiling the onions for the last few minutes of baking.
