Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cups diced apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and 1 cup sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the flour mixture until just combined to form the crust.
- Press half of the crust into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, toss diced apples with remaining sugar and lemon juice.
- Sauté apples with a pinch of cinnamon until slightly softened.
- Spoon the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
- Top with the remaining crust mixture, crumbling it over the apples.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow to cool before slicing into bars.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free baking mix. For dairy-free, use coconut oil or vegan butter.
