Description
Delightful salted caramel apple bars that capture the essence of fall with a buttery crust, spiced apples, and a rich homemade caramel topping.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Add flour and salt, mix until combined, and press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In a separate bowl, toss chopped apples with cinnamon and set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, and heat over medium, stirring constantly until it reaches a caramel consistency.
- Layer spiced apples on top of the baked crust, then pour caramel over the apples.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until set.
- Allow cooling completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with extra caramel and topped with sea salt.
Notes
Use a candy thermometer for perfect caramel consistency. Allow bars to cool completely before slicing for clean edges.
