Description

Delightful salted caramel apple bars that capture the essence of fall with a buttery crust, spiced apples, and a rich homemade caramel topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add flour and salt, mix until combined, and press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  5. In a separate bowl, toss chopped apples with cinnamon and set aside.
  6. In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, and heat over medium, stirring constantly until it reaches a caramel consistency.
  7. Layer spiced apples on top of the baked crust, then pour caramel over the apples.
  8. Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until set.
  9. Allow cooling completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with extra caramel and topped with sea salt.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for perfect caramel consistency. Allow bars to cool completely before slicing for clean edges.
