Description

Tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory meat and rice filling, baked in a rich tomato sauce for a comforting dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 head of green cabbage
  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (such as thyme or oregano)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish
  • Sour cream for serving (optional)


Instructions

  1. Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water until soft, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, sauté the diced onion until translucent.
  3. In a bowl, mix the ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onion, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  4. Place a generous spoonful of filling in each cabbage leaf, roll tightly, and tuck in the ends.
  5. Arrange the rolls in a baking dish and cover with tomato sauce.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 60 minutes, until tender.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and a dollop of sour cream if desired.

Notes

Use day-old rice to prevent mushy rolls and ensure your filling is slightly cool before wrapping.
