Description

A delightful twist on classic upside-down cakes with caramelized bananas and a fluffy cake.


Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In an oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat and stir in brown sugar until dissolved.
  3. Layer sliced bananas over the caramel in the skillet.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. In another bowl, beat granulated sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter over the banana layer in the skillet.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a plate.

Notes

Use overly ripe bananas for the best sweetness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
