Description

A delightful dessert combining smooth custard with fruity berries, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Milk (substitute with plant-based milk)
  • 6 large Egg Yolks
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract (or vanilla bean paste)
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch (or arrowroot starch)
  • 4 tablespoons Butter (or margarine)
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream (or half-and-half)
  • 2 cups Frozen Berries (or seasonal fruit)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar (adjust for berry tartness)
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch (or arrowroot starch)
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 cup Powder Sugar (for dusting)
  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry (or homemade pastry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until warm. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
  3. Gradually mix warm milk into the egg mixture, stirring constantly. Return to saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened. Stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour custard into the baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30-35 minutes until set. Let cool.
  5. For the berry filling, combine frozen berries, sugar, cornstarch, and water in a saucepan, cook over medium heat until thickened. Let cool.
  6. Layer berry filling over the cooled custard. Optionally, place a sheet of puff pastry on top.
  7. Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form and spread over the berry layer.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Be gentle when whisking the custard to keep it smooth, and allow it to cool completely before adding berry filling.
