Description

A traditional Mallorcan spiral pastry with flaky layers and a rich, buttery flavor, perfect for breakfast or any time of day.

Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 25g active dry yeast
  • 100g sugar
  • 250ml milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 125g unsalted butter, softened
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, and sugar.
  2. Warm the milk slightly and add it to the dry ingredients along with eggs and softened butter.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough as thinly as possible and shape it into spirals.
  6. Allow the formed Ensaimadas to rest for 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality flour and fresh yeast. Ensure your kitchen is warm for effective rising.
