Description

A rustic dessert featuring sweet and tart apples wrapped in a buttery crust and drizzled with rich salted caramel, perfect for gatherings or cozy nights.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Salted Butter
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky Sea Salt
  • 1 1/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Cold Salted Butter
  • 4-6 tablespoons Ice-Cold Water
  • 1/4 cup Sour Cream
  • 4 medium Medium Apples
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 large Large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Raw or Turbinado Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky Sea Salt (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Make the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, heat 1 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns amber in color. Add 1/2 cup of salted butter and stir until melted. Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream while carefully stirring. Remove from heat and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of flaky sea salt. Let it cool.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cut in 1/2 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 4-6 tablespoons of ice-cold water and 1/4 cup of sour cream. Mix until the dough forms a ball. Wrap it in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Apples: Peel and slice 4 medium apples. Toss them with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon of cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Set aside.
  4. Assemble the Galette: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough into a circle on a floured surface. Place it on a baking sheet. Add the apple mixture in the center, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pinching it to secure.
  5. Finish the Galette: Brush the dough with a beaten egg for shine and sprinkle raw sugar on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender. Drizzle with the salted caramel and sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Add extra flaky sea salt on top for added flavor.
