Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Filling of choice (e.g., poppy seed paste, apricot jam)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture; mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut into circles using a cookie cutter or glass.
- Place about a teaspoon of filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold the edges of the dough to form a triangle shape and pinch the corners to seal.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush with egg wash (if desired) for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential for maintaining the shape of cookies. Avoid overfilling to prevent leakage.
