Description

A delightful transformation of traditional South African bobotie into elegant filo parcels, balancing spice and sweetness with a crunchy texture.


Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground meat (beef or lamb)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 sheets of filo pastry
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • Dried fruits (such as raisins or apricots), optional


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté onions and garlic in a pan until soft, then mix in spices and ground meat until cooked through.
  3. Add eggs and milk to the meat mixture, stirring well.
  4. Lay out sheets of filo pastry and brush each layer with melted butter.
  5. Spoon a portion of filling onto the base of the filo, fold over, and shape into parcels.
  6. Place parcels on a baking tray and bake until golden and crispy.

Notes

Serve warm with chutney on the side. Can be frozen before baking for future use.
