A delightful transformation of traditional South African bobotie into elegant filo parcels, balancing spice and sweetness with a crunchy texture.
Ingredients
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground meat (beef or lamb)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 sheets of filo pastry
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Dried fruits (such as raisins or apricots), optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Sauté onions and garlic in a pan until soft, then mix in spices and ground meat until cooked through.
- Add eggs and milk to the meat mixture, stirring well.
- Lay out sheets of filo pastry and brush each layer with melted butter.
- Spoon a portion of filling onto the base of the filo, fold over, and shape into parcels.
- Place parcels on a baking tray and bake until golden and crispy.
Notes
Serve warm with chutney on the side. Can be frozen before baking for future use.
