Description

Crispy parcels filled with spiced minced meat and a hint of sweetness, inspired by South African flavors.


Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 sheets filo pastry
  • 100g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional)
  • Seasonal veggies (peas or carrots), optional


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté onions and garlic in a pan until translucent.
  3. Add ground meat and spices; cook until browned.
  4. If using, mix in beaten egg and seasonal veggies and stir well.
  5. Take a sheet of filo pastry, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and fold into a parcel.
  6. Brush the top with melted butter.
  7. Repeat until all filling is used.
  8. Place parcels on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Serve with mango chutney and a fresh salad for a complete meal. These parcels can be frozen for later use.
