Description

A delightfully flavorful bread combining garlic, fresh herbs, and two types of cheese, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups buttermilk at room temperature
  • 2 ½ tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 3 ½-4 cups bread flour
  • 1 ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, at room temperature + more for brushing and serving
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup fresh chopped basil
  • 2 tbsp fresh chopped thyme
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped oregano
  • Topping: 2 tbsp salted butter, melted, ¼ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine buttermilk, instant yeast, sugar, eggs, 3 ½ cups bread flour, and salt. Mix with the dough hook for about 4-5 minutes.
  2. Add 2 tbsp butter and mix until combined. If sticky, add more flour ¼ cup at a time until smooth.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise for 2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. While rising, mix remaining butter, garlic, parmesan, basil, thyme, and oregano in a bowl.
  5. Once risen, punch down and roll out into a 12 x 18 inch rectangle.
  6. Spread the garlic herb butter over the dough and layer cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Roll into a log from the long edge, pinching to seal, then cut in half lengthwise.
  8. Twist the dough halves to expose the filling and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Cover and let rise for another 45 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F, brush with remaining butter and garlic powder, and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

Notes
