Description

A delightful twist on classic onion rings, Tennessee Onions are cheesy, baked, and incredibly flavorful. Perfect as a snack or side dish.


Ingredients

  • 4 large Sweet Onions (Substitution: Vidalia, Maui, Texas Sweet, or Walla Walla onions)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano (Optional)
  • 4 tablespoons Butter (Thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (Can be swapped for Asiago or Monterey Jack)
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel the onions and slice off the top and bottom. Cut the onions into thick rings, about 1-inch wide.
  3. Place the onion rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Sprinkle the garlic powder, oregano (if using), salt, and pepper evenly over the onions.
  5. Add thin slices of butter on top of the onions.
  6. Layer the cheeses on top of the onions, starting with the cheddar, followed by mozzarella, and finally the parmesan.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the onions are tender.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
