Description
A delightful twist on classic onion rings, Tennessee Onions are cheesy, baked, and incredibly flavorful. Perfect as a snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- 4 large Sweet Onions (Substitution: Vidalia, Maui, Texas Sweet, or Walla Walla onions)
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Oregano (Optional)
- 4 tablespoons Butter (Thinly sliced)
- 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (Can be swapped for Asiago or Monterey Jack)
- to taste Salt
- to taste Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the onions and slice off the top and bottom. Cut the onions into thick rings, about 1-inch wide.
- Place the onion rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the garlic powder, oregano (if using), salt, and pepper evenly over the onions.
- Add thin slices of butter on top of the onions.
- Layer the cheeses on top of the onions, starting with the cheddar, followed by mozzarella, and finally the parmesan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the onions are tender.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
