Description

Warm and nostalgic traditional Italian Christmas cookies, rich with vanilla, almond, and a hint of citrus, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs, orange zest, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Use festive cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  9. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden at the edges.
  11. Let them cool before dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

For the best results, ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature. Chill the dough adequately to prevent spreading during baking.
