Ingredients
- 1 loaf challah bread
- 3 ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil plus more for brushing
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Sea salt, to taste
- Crushed red pepper, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Slice challah into ½-inch thick pieces.
- Brush both sides with olive oil.
- Place bread slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden and crisp, about 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix diced tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and sea salt.
- Let the mixture sit for at least 10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Layer the tomato mixture onto the toasted challah slices before serving.
